Scan to BIM Model for a Chemical Plant in Turkey

Project Overview

CRESIRE partnered with an engineering and laser surveying firm in Istanbul, Turkey, to create an LOD 350 BIM model for a chemical plant. The project involved modeling essential plant elements, including chemical equipment, flanges, valves, piping, and the steel structure of the ground plus six floors.

The client supplied point cloud data in E57 format along with 360-degree images to assist in the modeling process. Although the point cloud data quality was moderate, the 360-degree images played a vital role in ensuring the model’s accuracy.

CRESIRE delivered the initial BIM model within three business weeks. However, following feedback from the client’s end customer, additional refinements were needed. Our team promptly made the required adjustments and provided the final updated model within one week.

Key Challenges & Solutions

1. Low Scan Quality

Some areas of the plant had poor scan resolution, making it challenging to model certain components with high accuracy.

Solution: Our team utilized the 360-degree images provided by the client to fill in the missing details and ensure precise modeling.

2. High Precision Requirements

Despite the average scan quality, the client needed a highly detailed BIM model with accurate representations of plant equipment such as piping, valves, and flanges.

Solution: Our BIM specialists carefully analyzed the point cloud data and complemented it with reference images to achieve the highest level of accuracy in the model.

3. Tight Revision Deadline

Following the initial model delivery, the client requested several modifications, requiring a quick turnaround of one week.

Solution: CRESIRE’s team allocated additional resources to efficiently implement the requested revisions, successfully delivering the final updated model within the required timeframe.

Conclusion

Thanks to strong collaboration and technical expertise, CRESIRE successfully produced an accurate and high-quality LOD 350 BIM model for the chemical plant.

Despite challenges like scan limitations and tight timelines, our team met the deadline and ensured client satisfaction by utilizing 360-degree imagery and advanced modeling techniques. This project demonstrates CRESIRE’s dedication to precision, efficiency, and providing client-focused solutions in the Scan to BIM sector.
