Point Cloud to Revit Model & CAD Drawings
Project Overview
We partnered with a rigging company based in the UK to assist in creating precise architectural drawings for a warehouse facility.
The client specifically required detailed floor plans and elevation views that accurately represented the rigging systems, including exact dimensions, to aid in effective planning and coordination. Through consistent collaboration and timely communication, the project was efficiently delivered within one week.
Client Feedback: “The drawings are exactly what we needed – they look great. Appreciate your support!”

Project Challenges
1. Extracting DWGs from Revit
A major part of the project involved exporting precise DWG floor plans and elevation drawings from the Revit model. This process required close coordination, as the files needed to be transferred into AutoCAD, where distinct layers, line types, and hatching patterns were applied. Ensuring clarity and consistency throughout this transition was essential.
2. Unclear Areas in Point Cloud Data
While the point cloud data was generally of high quality, certain areas of the warehouse had limited visibility or incomplete scans, making it challenging to interpret some rigging components. To address this, our team applied BIM best practices and informed assumptions based on experience to fill in the missing details, resulting in accurate and visually consistent deliverables.
Conclusion
This project showcased our efficient execution of the Point Cloud to CAD workflow – from creating an accurate Revit model of the warehouse to producing structured DWG floor plans and elevations.
By staying aligned with the client’s specifications and maintaining clear communication throughout, we ensured that the rigging components were depicted with accurate dimensions and proper layer organization. The final deliverables were clean, professional drawings that fully met the client’s expectations and effectively supported their planning and coordination needs.
